IVS was founded in 1976, acquired by Grindrod Limited in 1999 and has become a prominent bulk ship owner and operator, shipping between 15 and 18 million tons per annum globally.
IVS moved location to Singapore in 2005 and trades under the name of Island View Shipping, a division of Grindrod Shipping Pte Ltd.

Island View Shipping, based in Singapore, is involved in the Handysize, Handymax, Cape & Panamax markets.
IVS – Handysize
LB/IVS JV - Lauritzen Bulkers IVS and Lauritzen Bulkers (LB/IVS JV) formed a Handysize joint venture (JV) in 2001. The LB/IVS JV involves the merging of all resources in the 25 000 – 40 000 deadweight segment. The fleet, exceeding 60 vessels is one of the largest modern Handysize fleets in the world. This is jointly operated out of Lauritzen Bulkers head office in Copenhagen and supported by offices in New York, Melbourne, Durban, Singapore and Tokyo, giving the LB/IVS JV a global coverage of the world markets.
IVS – Handymax

IVS is currently building a handymax chartering operation based in Singapore with branch offices in London, Vancouver, Durban and Tokyo.
Cape & Panamax vessels
An experienced chartering team is located in Cape Town. The fleet is employed both on Time Charter to major operators and to service its expanding cargo base. The Cape operation currently represents a carrying capacity of 7 / 8 million tons per annum.
The South African operation
Offers a regular Handysize / Handymax parcel service to the north-west Continent, UK, USA, Mediterranean and the Far East, scheduling 8 to 12 vessels per month from South Africa, Mozambique, East Africa and Namibian ports and also operates regularly in the following trades:
