Atlas Trading & Shipping was formed when Grindrod Limited purchased the agricultural commodity trading & shipping operations of Seaboard Corporation of Kansas City, USA.
Atlas trades bulk agricultural products internationally – originating, shipping and delivering approximately 3 million tons of grains, oilseeds, oilseed meals and other agricultural products annually to end-users in the animal feed, milling and agri-processing industries in markets throughout the world. Product is sourced globally and supplied primarily into Africa, South America, the Eastern Mediterranean and South East Asia.
At present Atlas is ranked as one of the leading players in the commodity supply industry in South Africa (market share is greater than 70% in soybean meal). On the international front Atlas competes against the world’s largest traders of agricultural commodity and has the advantage of greater flexibility and a quicker response time in bringing opportunities to market.
