Bay Stevedores, situated in the port of Richards Bay, was established in 1993 and is a stevedoring business specialising in the pay loading and separation of bulk cargo. The business provides services to Grindrod affiliated companies as well as third parties.
Many a day, is started at first light, handling cargoes such as Ferro Alloys; Chrome; Andalusite etc, deep in the hold of a bulk vessel. A pay loader (“Reach Machine”) is lowered into the hold of the vessel pushing cargo into position. Once the cargo is loaded and payloaded, a welded wall of steel metal plates is put in place which separates it from the next cargo to be loaded. Skilled craftsmen and welders are amongst the 25 people employed by Bay Stevedores.
Bay Stevedores, a division of Grindrod Terminals, complements the existing terminal operations in Richards Bay and goes hand in hand with Grindrod’s strategy to grow its service offering to customers in the bulk cargo handling market.
