Grindrod Automotive Services provides a vehicle stevedoring and driving service function within the Durban and East London Car Terminals on behalf of Transnet Port Terminals and major vehicle manufactures.
The Stevedoring activities include the loading and discharge of all import and export vehicles from vessels, which includes transshipments. The driving services include the transfer of vehicles between rail, vessel and carrier; ultimately for distribution throughout South Africa. Other services include monitoring vehicles for damages whilst in the car terminal (from point of entry to dispatch) and the management of the internal distribution processes of vehicles to be moved. Grindrod Automotive Services also provides additional auxiliary services within the Car Terminal ranging from the washing of import / export vehicles to supporting the internal fitment process of certain units.
Grindrod Automotive Services employs approximately 430 people and is currently developing a training program for all supervisors, drivers and checkers in order to provide a world class service.
